Unable to format Samsung SD card via Disk Management

Usually, Samsung SD card is able to be formatted via Disk Management: open Disk

However, Windows will not allow you to format partition over 32GB to FAT32 file system. If the partition is beyond 32GB, you’ll find that there is no “FAT32” option when you format it. And you are not allowed to format the second partition on SD card via Disk Management as Windows recognizes only the first primary partition on removable device like SD card. When you try to format SD card in Disk Management,
you’ll receive a message that “An unexpected error has occurred. Check System Event

3How to format write-protected SD card

Sometimes when attempting to format an SD card you will receive an error saying that it is write protected.

For formatting write protected SD card, you need to look at the edge to find a little tab, which can be moved up and down. Move the tab into the opposite position to turn off the protection.

Then you can follow the ways in part 2 to start to format the card.

If the step fails or there is no tab in the SD card, do as the following:

1Run command option

Windows 8 and above: Right click the start button and Click «Command Prompt (Admin)».

Windows XP, Vista or 7: Click the start button and right click on the «Command Prompt» option and choose «Run as administrator» > Find the «Command Prompt» icon.

2Type «diskpart» and Enter > Type «list disk» and Enter

A list of all the available disks on your computer will appear. Make a note of the disk number that resembles the same size as the SD card you are formatting

3Type «select disk n» (Where n is the number of the disk for the SD card) and Enter > Type «attributes disk clear readonly» and Enter > Type «clean» and Enter > Type «exit» and Enter to exit diskpart.

Then you just need to follow the part 2 to reformat SD card again.

How to Unformat an SD Card and Restore Data

In case you misformat the SD card and want to restore the data on it. In this part, we will tell you how to unformat an SD card. 

First, you should know that formatting a memory card does not really erase the data on it. If the data area is not overwritten by new content, you can successfully bring them back. Method 2. Undo the Format with CMD

As mentioned above, you can format an SD card using CMD. Similarly, you can also unformat the SD card with it. Here is the way.

Step 1: Press «Win + R» keys or go to Search, type: cmd and hit «Enter». Open the Command Prompt window.

Step 2: Type: chkdsk F: /f and hit «Enter». (Replace F with the drive letter of the formatted SD card.)

Step 3: Type: Y and hit «Enter» to continue.

Formatting an SD memory card

The formatting process begins with wiping the card and removing all data that it stores. The procedure can be executed in two ways:

• Устройство с, данном примере, Windows, а так же встроенным (или внешним, не суть) карт-ридером (устройством для чтения карт памяти);
• Бесплатная утилита SDFormatter.

В редких случаях, может потребоваться переходник с MicroSD на SD или какой-то еще, на случай, если у Вас ноутбук (или компьютер), поддерживает исключительно не тот типоразмер, который Вам нужен:

Переходники бывают, пожалуй, со всего на всё, так что, при желании, найдете, хоть с маленького размера на большой, хоть с большого на маленький, хоть что-то еще. Если же в компьютере не нашлось гнезда для карты, то можно купить USB-картридер с поддержкой Вашего типоразмера карты памяти или вообще всяческого. Обычный пример какой-то такой:

Если планируете использовать флешку или СД карту сами и никаких ошибок в работе ее не было — то используйте быстрый вариант.
